Description

Evening coat, circa 1930, attributed to Nelle Babani, Paris, ochre panne velvet cardigan style coat with V neck and long, flared, slit sleeves, embroidered down the front and at the sleeves with metallic tambour embroidered pattern of paisley botehs, very good condition except for disintegrating lining. Note: Babani's work is similar to that of Fortuny. While both worked with ethnic influences, Fortuny's velvet garments were stenciled in his trademark gold or silver and Babani's were embroidered in the tambour chain stitch shown in this piece.
