Label: "Prince's costume worn by Thomas O'Conor Sloane at a children's party in N.Y. about 1860" Rare child's fancy dress costume, deep brick red velvet trimmed with bands of metallic gold brocaded ribbon, the hat of ivory taffeta with velvet circular panel inset at the top sewn with a gilt metal embroidered star applique, and then edged with a band of burgundy silk with braid, the short cape in dark red velvet, showing original matching trim from whatever this was cut down from, trimmed with two bands of gold braid, lined in bright white silk, ivory wool flannel knickers with warm lining, edged with band of velvet and velvet cockade bows, velvet tunic trimmed at the yoke, short sleeves, peplum and two tiered skirt with gold braid, with stars down the front, ivory wool under sleeves, good condition, very unusual in terms of quality of materials used and size and age.
