Butter churn
The butter churn was an instrument used for making butter.
Before being poured into the churn, milk was first left to settle in a cool place to allow the cream to rise to the top. After half a day or so, the cream was skimmed off and put in the churn. The person would then lift a stick called a dasher up and down in an upright container, usually made of wood or earthenware. In many societies it was traditional to sing a song as you worked.
