1908Notes
Date of photo is given as 1908 on p. 10 of landmark application for Capitol Market Building: https://www.cityofberkeley.info/uploadedFiles/Planning_and_Development/Level_3_-_LPC/2009-09-03_LPC_ATT%201_1500%20Shattuck_Landmark%20Application.pdf. The application says the corner market received the name "Capitol Market" around 1922. But what is the cut-off sign at the left, and wouldn't it make more sense that "capital" would have been introduced at the time of the state capital proposal? Maybe it was an early name that was revived later with a different spelling.Lexicon
