Metal (probably silver) lapel pin for Volunteer Medical Service in World War I. Triangular shaped with "VMS" at the top and wings and medical staff below. Back pin may be missing. In a plastic case. Belonged to James E. Shafer, M.D. (physician & surgeon). Dr. Shafer lived at 2815 Woolsey St. and had an office at 2162 Center St.
