Description

One quart glass milk bottle with text in red: "South Berkeley Creamery, Oakland, Independently Owned, J.A. Sabatte." Also shows picture of a baby next to a milk bottle "Baby's best friend in glass." J.A. Sabatte, a French immigrant, lived in Berkeley (on Webster Street, as listed under Dairy in 1908 and 1911 phone directory along with Peter Sabatte) and bought a small milk distribution business in South Berkeley then started his own company in 1910. It grew and moved partly to Oakland. In 1956 his sons took over and renamed it Berkeley Farms. In 1998 it was acquired by Dean Foods. See duplicate bottle 2008.061.002.
