The Hotel Whitecotton was originally named the Shattuck Hotel and built in 1910 at Shattuck and Allston, with 180 rooms. Architect was Benjamin McDougall. Built of steel and concrete, therefore "fireproof". In 1913 120 rooms were added. It was named the Whitecotton Hotel 1918-1942 after the new owner William Whitecotton. Renamed back to the Shattuck Hotel in 1942 after his death and in 2007 renamed Hotel Shattuck Plaza. J.F. Hink and Son department store occupied the ground floor for 70 years.Lexicon
