Wooden Go gameboard. (For set of black and white playing pieces/stones and 2 wood bowls to hold pieces see 2017.015.002-2017.015.005 in box 2). Board was made to fold over and has a hinge underneath in the middle. A frame was added later and now doesn't fold. Squares (18 each way) are carved in board in black. Small dots on board define areas (for playing). The board was made and used in a Japanese internment camp during WWII. (The playing pieces/stones were used in the camp, but from an older set.) The set was used after the war by evacuees who temporarily stayed at a house at 1813 University Ave. in Berkeley.
For information only, a printout (from Wikipedia) of the history of the game and how it is played is enclosed. Also, a 1939 book on how to play, printed by the Japanese Tourist Bureau (not part of donation). Game is not like chess. Except for colors of stones, they are interchangeable. Board is traditionally on legs.Lexicon
