Description

Ceremonial shovel with wood handle. Metal base is painted gold and stamped with "USA tempered Ames since 1774" in front and "4NO" in back. Blue paper label attached along handle reads "Bayer Berkeley Groundbreaking---Nov 7, 2000". Used by Shirley Dean as mayor 1994-2002. Bayer Pharmaceutical Co. groundbreaking was at 747 Grayson, just south of main property at 800 Dwight Way.
