John Hadsell was the chair of the committee that produced the study De Facto Segregation in the Berkeley Public Schools in 1963. These papers include a copy of the report, preliminary drafts, and other materials relating to the committee, then subsequent reactions to the report. There are also a number of reports issued by the school district in conjunction with the Council of Social Planning—Berkeley Area. Of interest is a 1962 report issued by the Berkeley Chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE).
The collection also includes some papers of Virginia Hadsell, who taught at Franklin School, concerning publication of two items relating to Berkeley schools, On the Go and Equal Start. There is also some correspondence with Chandler Publishing Company about her authorship of a booklet about BART. These date from 1967-1968.Archive Details
