Note

The coronation of Edward VIII as King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth and as Emperor of India was due to take place at Westminster Abbey on 12 May 1937. Preparations had already begun and souvenirs were on sale when he abdicated on 11 December 1936. The stunning Coronation Mug is one of those pieces. Shelley China had long been one of the top purveyors of commemorative wares in the U.K. and this instance was no exception, so unbeknownst the production went on and now these pieces are a part of history and the beautiful love story of a man who gave up a throne for the woman he loved.
