Historical NoteNote
These cordite canisters were recovered from the wreck of the “Pollockshields” wrecked September 13, 1915 on the South Shore off of the Elbow Beach Hotel. The “Pollockshields” was a German ship captured by the Royal Navy, loaded with ammunition for the British West Indian Fleet based at Bermuda. The canisters were loaded with cordite charges for eight inch naval guns which armed heavy Cruisers.
