Royal Ruby Tilt Ball Pitcher

Name/Title

Royal Ruby Tilt Ball Pitcher

Description

The body is circular in shape with a small flat base that causes the pitcher to tilt slightly forward when standing up. The neck has a series of 3 horizontal ribs. The front half of the mouth rises up to form a spout. The sides of the spout curve inwards slightly at the back, before getting smaller and closing to form the lip; known as an ice lip. The handle starts at the middle of the neck and ends on the lower body, and also has ribs running down the handle.

Notes

In 1938 the Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation started production of a new type of red glass named Royal Ruby, in which the deep red color was achieved by the addition of cuprous (copper) oxide to the molten glass rather than gold chloride. Eliminating gold from the process reduced the costs but the manufacturing process was still exacting, and Royal Ruby glassware was still generally not made in large quantities.
