General Notes

Note

The bottles in the left hand case are from the wreck of the English armed ship, Lord Amherst, wrecked on the west reefs February 16, 1778. These bottles are free blown; most of them are of English origin, with the exception of the two bottles with the broken necks, which are Dutch and were still in use, having wooden stoppers when recovered by Teddy Tucker in the early 1960’s. The purpose of these two exhibits (L’Herminie and Lord Amherst Bottle Cases) is to reveal the evolution of the art of glass blowing in the making of bottles during a sixty-year period.
