EXHIBIT TEXT: Contemporary English preserve jars in brown stoneware varied considerably in colour, depending on the temperature and atmosphere in the kilns. The larger of the two comes from the British military transport, the Lord Amherst lost in 1778, and the smaller from the Elizabeth, which sank in 1784. (SEE/SAME TEXT FOR L.96.168)
