Man on horse is a 2 piece painted wood carving done by Franco-American Folk artist, Adelard Coté. The man has gray hair and his clothes are painted blue. There is a red shirt visible under the blue top. He has movable arms that are able to hold the reins. He is wearing maroon, lace up boots. There is a detachable saddle on the horse which is made of leather or other material. The horse has some black fibers or hair as a tail. It has no ears and has a white patch on its forehead. Local folk artist, Adelard Coté, began to whittle in the early 1940's according to his daughter, Violette. He used many kinds of wood for his sculptures. Growing up on a farm, he often did carvings of farm life and activities, carrying water, riding a horse, plowing, some of the animals like cows and horses,. He drew much of his inspiration from his family and upbringing. Most of his work was done between 1940 - 1960.Collection
