New Print(making) Technologies

Poster for the World Printmaking Council: "New Print (Making) Technologies" was a conference in San Francisco in May, 1982, and Bill Ritchie's image was used for the artwork. This poster is signed in ballpoint by Pat Cole, another one of the speakers with whom Bill shared the stage. Pat worked with Jim Blinn at Jet Propulsion Lab in the late 1970s and then joined the Computer Graphics Project at Lucasfilm under Dr. Alvy Ray Smith in the early 1980s. While there she contributed to The Genesis Demo shot in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982). She then joined Hewlett Packard. She was probably in her mid-20s at JPL, with an approximate birth year of 1955. She worked at Atari at that time she and Bill shared dinner - she was seated on his left and Dr. Fritz Eichenberg on his right. At the Jet Propulsion Lab, she created graphics for Carl Sagan's Cosmos series. Her autograph on this poster reads, "To Nellie - May the power be with you," or words to that effect. Months later, when Bill made a return visit to California, she gave him a tour of Atari, as it seemed that he was being considered to work at the company.
