Description

Two lead mini balls or bullets. One has three horizontal grooves and a blunt tip. the other has two groove and a pointed tip.

Context

The mini ball came into wide use during the American Civil War. It was named for one of its developers, Claude-Etienne Minie. Its design, which differed from the round lead balls that had been used in muskets for decades, increased its range and accuracy.
