Three lead musket balls, gray in colorContext
According to one source, musket balls in the United States are most associated with the Revolutionary War, but are also found at sites associated with early Spanish expeditions and the American Civil War.
According to a document (in the accession folder) on how to identify Revolutionary War musket balls, these early bullets were made from lead or lead-tin by melting the metal and pouring it down as channel known as a sprue into a two part mold. You can see where the sprue was cut on one of these balls and mold line around the middle of another.
