Context

A number of industries operated on this river bank site before 1885 when the Nevins & Haviland Shade Roller Co. built its three-story factory to manufacture rollers and slats, across West Main Street from its first mill. The two structures were connected by an enclosed bridge like the one over Canal St. The factory ran until 1926 when it was bought by Green Mountain Power Co. and used for storage. Goodrich Aerospace leased the building in the 1930s and produced jet fuel regulators there until 1999. It has remained unused since although there has been talk of transforming the structure into apartments.
