These items were used by my mother Mabel Idleman Ross, a Church of the Brethren pastor's daughter, in her younger years. She would skim the cream from the top of the milk and after she had collected enough cream, would churn the cream into butter. The paddle would be used to squeeze the buttermilk from the butter and to form the butter into shape. The butter would then be placed in the mold, which would hold about one pound. The mold was constructed so that the butter could be forced out, leaving it in the shape of the mold. My mother would then wrap the butter in waxed paper and sell it to the local grocery store for resale.Acquisition
