The Keystone Eye Comfort Series: The Human Body is Benefited by Proper Exercise- The Eyes Are No Exception.
Your doctor has prescribed this Eye Comfort Set because these exercises "smooth and ease the co-ordinating action of two eyes and bring relief to many whose difficulties arise from the inability to read, sew, or work comfortably." They provide a means of "restoring the pleasure of reading and work at the near point to many who have been compelled to forego these pleasurable occupations because of the discomfort they experience."
The exercises provided in the Eye Comfort Series have to do with only one general visual problem, the developing and smoothing of the co-ordination of the two eyes. Just as our two hands and our two feet must work in harmony with each other and with the rest of our physical organisms, if their tasks are to be performed most efficiently, so must our two eyes learn to function smoothly together to produce the wonderful train of sensations experienced with normal human vision.
Even if this co-ordination has been developed well from childhood, a number of causes may without our notice, produce minor derangements in adult life. Among these causes are too much close work, approaching age, toxic conditions, or a long continued abuse of the eyes endured by them patiently until incorrect eye habits have been forced upon them. Wearing properly made glasses usually removes the original cause of these bad ocular habits but does not always correct the habit after it has been formed.
The stereograms in this series provide exercises in varying degrees of difficulty. They should be used in order indicated. The progression is from the simplest eye task to the more difficult so that eye comfort and coordination may be obtained by easy stages.
The Eye Comfort Series consists of:
4 increasingly exaggerated stereograms.
5 jump induction stereogram.
1 vergence stereogram.
2 normal stereograms.
1 tested stereoscope, designed for eye correction work.Use
Length of Time:
Ten to twenty minutes daily, preferably split up into two or three minute periods throughout the day should be devoted to these exercises. They should not be continued at any one sitting after fatigue or discomfort is evidenced.
General Instructions:
Be sure strong, even illumination falls on the surface of the photograph. The photographs are curved slightly so as to eliminate glare.
Keep the lenses clean.
Be sure all slides are placed snugly in the holder. THE HOLDER AND THE SLIDE MUST BE LEVEL. If your doctor prescribes glasses for everyday use, wear them when using this instrument. Unless your doctor instructs you to take the exercises with the slide holder at any given distance from the lenses, always adjust it back and forth on the shaft until you see the details of the picture most easily and clearly. The point of relaxation for the majority is a distance of from 7.5 to 8 inches from the lenses.
Your instructions are simple. Go over them carefully the first few times. You will have the procedure well in mind soon. Perseverance will be rewarded. A pair of normally functioning eyes is a priceless possession.
NOTE: Do not become concerned if, after looking quickly from the instrument to a printed page, you find it difficult to read instantly. This TEMPORARY condition is beneficial. It is caused by the complete relaxation of the delicate muscles controlling the focus of the eyes. These exercises strengthen and co-ordinate the muscles controlling the movement of the eyeballs while those controlling focus are given a refreshing rest. Exercises reversing this procedure may be prescribed by your doctor.
We wish to acknowledge our indebtedness to the many eye specialists who have contributed their suggestions toward the making of this service.
