Description

The Brubaker family, originally Mennonite, were early settlers of Page Co. VA, in the vicinity of Hamburg (originally called "Massanutten"). They arrived in the early 1700s. The brick home where this quilt was constructed still stands (c. 1800-1820). Quilt colors and fabric pattern date it to 1880-1900. It is both hand and machine sewn, indicating family was wealthy enough to buy a sewing machine in the 1880s. Seven stitches per inch of quilting. Basket pattern quilt
