Context

This doll was given to Mildred Wenger Plank by Miss Kate Pennybaker. The dress, slip and undergarment were made for the doll by a black woman named Josephine Temple. The cap belonged to Mildred as a baby. She gave this doll the most beautiful name she knew: Goldie. Mildred also named one of her daughters Goldie.
