Dorothy Nice Blosser, daughter of Henry and Lulu Nice from Newport News, Virginia, married Glendon Lee Blosser, son of Mahlon and Pauline Blosser on May 12, 1951. They were married on the lawn of her home under an arbor made by her father. This is her wedding dress which was created and sewn by Lulu Heatwole, Dorothy's oldest sister, who bought the 4 yards of material from Martins Store in Park View. The dress has the typical "cape" bodice as required by the Mennonite Churches of that time, however the scalloped neckline and rows of buttons were pushing the boundaries of the expected simplicity. The Nice family was part of a migration that helped form the "Denbigh Mennonite Colony" in Newport News in the early 1900's. Dorothy's ancestors were part of the Mennonite Church in Ohio, Nebraska, and Louisiana, where her grandfather and great grandfather were ministers. Dorothy and Glendon were deeply involved with the Mennonite Church all their married life. However, Dorothy was "always there" at home as her children were growing up; cooking potatoes, listening to school stories, planning Bible School, shelling peas, baking cookies, hanging out laundry, and scraping mud from little shoes. As their children left home, Dorothy found her friendships broadening during Glendon's call to Trinidad. She joined in church life wherever she was "planted"- and loved everyone! She died from cancer in 2004.
