Donor's sister Marilyn Margutti Pickens, the family historian, thinks this sewing machine belonged to their father's maternal grandmother, Marie Rodust. She was a seamstress/dressmaker for the City of Paris department store in San Francisco, from the mid-1890s to around 1930. Marilyn thinks Marie Rodust may have gotten the sewing machine through the store. When Marie Rodust died, the sewing machine passed to her daughter and then on to donor's father (he was an only child) and mother (all this took place in California), and then to donor. The donor's mother taught her how to sew on this machine before letting her use the electric sewing machine.
Acquired from donor's parents when they died and house was closed up, about 1992.
