A lively scene in a Swedish bar in Paris the 1920s. This painting once hung over the bar in the Bartletts' whimsical little "chapel" building at their farm Bothways in Essex, Massachusetts.
Supposedly the figures in this painting are, right to left as per our historian Kent Planck, 2025:
-Salvadore Dali at far right.
- Toulouse-Lautrec with top hat in the background.
- Gertrude Stein in profile next to Dali, and Alice facing front next to her.
- the waiter with the tray above his head has been variously described as either of the movie actors Fatty Arbuckle or Edward G. Robinson (and the figure looks enough like either one to be either one, so I always offer that as a toss-up).
-Frederic as the bartender
- the young lady at the far end of the bar - who actually looks more like the funny pages' Annie - is supposed to be Shirley Temple, presumably there to order her eponymous mocktail. (though she was born in 1928 and our records say this was created circa 1925 - note from me, KV)Artwork Details
