He holds a tan guitar with brown neck, blue fingerboard, and red strap. To his object right is seated young man with tan skin, brown wavy hair parted on side. He wears a blue shirt, black scarf draped around neck, and light blue trousers. He holds a brown guitar with black neck, red strap. He is strumming the guitar. Behind them is a white, blue, and green wall. On wooden stretcher with central horizontal support. In white wooden frame with torus, ogee molding.

This was painted from a photograph, then Frederic Clay Bartlett made a a study for the painting, 1985.B.099 and then created the final work. The painting appears to be unfinished. The predominant use of the color blue may have been an homage to Pablo Picasso's painting The Old Guitarist that Frederic gave to the Art Institute of Chicago.Artwork Details
