Oil painting on canvas depicts outside veiw of a two-story building with outside stair case. Two people are on the stairs. Behind catwalk can be seen a paned window with yellow curtains inside. On ground floor to object right of door is a white stone sculpture of classical woman with flowing robes. Two limbs of a tree with green leaves, black branches above sculpture. To object left of door is a gray and brown column with brown bust on top. Red and brown rooster, tilted scupltured white head of a man with beard, black wrought iron chair, tan cubes on ground.

Frederic Clay Bartlett studied art in Paris. He also amassed a world class collection of Post Impresionist paintings there which he gave to the Chicago Art Institute in memory of his second wife, Helen Birch Bartlett.
