MS.20Scope and Content
Boulder City's Black Canyon Country Club was established in 1933, when members played on a sand course in the desert south of town, teeing off from raised platforms of local volcanic rock arranged in a square and filled with hard-packed dirt. At one point, the club took a lease from the Bureau of Reclamation for 206 acres of land south of what is now Adams Boulevard, with the promise that they would build a golf course. The promised course did not happen, and shortly after Boulder City's incorporation, the club bought the land it had leased. In a controversial 1971 deal, the Black Canyon Country Club sold its golf course land to Panda Homes for a housing development. It wasn't until 1972 that Boulder City built a municipal golf course, which was dedicated on June 9, 1973.
