Description

Hoover Dam controlling the Colorado River’s flow through diversion tunnel #1, February 1, 1935 [“Old Man River will keep rolling along - but hereafter he will take his orders from man. The Colorado River went back into its centuries-old bed in Black Canyon, surged lustily downstream and bumped its head on Boulder Dam. Six dungaree workmen with spades and a steel gate twelve feet thick moved a river that for uncounted years has gone on its way, irresistible, until three years ago, men and machinery began to swarm into the depths of the canyon. Photo shows: Photo taken immediately after the diversion of river into Tunnel No. 1, which will control the Colorado River's flow."; Internationals News photo
