U. S. Bureau of Mines Collection - C-830-BC Furnaces and Equipment for Experimental Production of Titanium by Electrolysis of Fused Salts

0022:0149: U. S. Bureau of Mines Collection - C-830-BC Furnaces and Equipment for Experimental Production of Titanium by Electrolysis of Fused Salts ["Three of these furnaces, the light-colored rectangular structures, are shown. The salt bath which is to be subjected to action of the electric current is contained in the iron chamber which projects through the lid of the furnace. The chamber is sealed in order that the salt bath may be protected from atmospheric oxidation by helium or argon. Current for the electrolysis is led from the rectifier n the middle foreground through the light-colored wires to the vertical rods which serve to carry the current through the lid to electrodes immersed in the molten bath. Larger-scale equipment is on order for molten electrolytic studies."]
