US Bureau of Mines Collection - C-565-BC Compressor Room: These units supply air and vacuum to the entire station. The vacuum pump, shown in right-hand foreground, is rated at 350 c.f.m., and the compressor in the left-hand foreground is rated at 900 c.f.m., while the smaller compressor visible in the background is rated at 250 c.f.m. The 250-c.f.m. compressor normally handles the air requirements with the 900-c.f.m. compressor as standby. There are also two smaller pumps and compressors, which are entirely automatic, to serve the station when demands are small.
