US Bureau of Mines Collection - Dithionate Process Leach Tanks

0022:0194: US Bureau of Mines Collection - C-848-BC Dithionate -Process Leach Tanks: In this process the manganese oxide ores is leached with sulfur dioxide gas to form soluble manganese sulfate and manganese dithionate. The incoming sulfur dioxide gas goes through the three flowmeters seen in the left foreground and then into three gas-tight leach tanks, the tops of two of which can be seen in the lower foreground; then through the tank at center of picture, thence through the higher tank at the right. The manganese ore in the form of a slurry flows by gravity through each tank in the circuit. The instrument "No. 4" is one of several automatic gas analyzers used on the system. [cf. 0022:0444]
