US Bureau of Mines Collection - Stainless Steel Drum Filter

0022:0195: US Bureau of Mines Collection - C-838-BC Stainless Steel Drum Filter: This is an Eimco, six-foot diameter by four-foot wide, stainless steel, washing filter. Solids suspended in water or solution are pumped into the pan, the drum rotates, and suction is applied to the inside of the drum. This suction draws the solution into the drum while the solids are held on the canvas covering, and a "cake" is built up on the canvas. As the drum turns around, the "cake" emerges from the solution and is washed by a spray of water. The washed cake moves down the face of the drum and is removed by the combined action of air pressure and a knife edge. The material shown is manganese plant tails.
