"Situated on the bank of the Colorado River which is out of view along the line of trees, was the temporary home site of several hundred Boulder Dam workmen and their families. The tent house below the American flag was the first ranger station in charge of U.S. Marshall Williams for whom the town was named. The building in the foreground was a store owned by Murl Emery, pioneer Colorado River boatman. Everyone watched for the arrival of trucks which brought bread, milk, and other foods to the Emery store as the demand was greater than the supply and driving 30 miles over a rough desert road to Las Vegas in the terrific heat was an all-day job to be avoided if possible. This site now lies at the bottom of beautiful Lake Mead. All the hills in the background have been covered by the waters impounded back of Boulder Dam for many months."
