Description

Wooden yarn winders were historically essential hand powered tools for spinners and weavers. They were used to transform yarn from hanks into more manageable balls and prevented tangles. Yarn winders were vital tools in the home before the industrialization of textile production, when most clothing and textiles were made by hand. Normally made of wood, the winders were hand crafted by local carpenters and artisans. They reflected a tradition of functional , simple designs for household use.
