Description

This beautiful antique wardrobe is currently on display at the Brenham Heritage Museum and was designed by Prussian-born cabinetmaker and Brenham resident Charles Blank. Blank became a United States citizen in 1858, and brought his European-style craftsmanship to Washington County, creating a variety of furniture pieces such as beds, desks, and cabinets out of Texas' native mesquite wood. Delicately carved, this ornate wardrobe demonstrates the craftsmanship of German furniture-making before the advent of mass production. More examples of furniture made by Charles Blank can be seen at the Winedale Historical Complex.
