History of Brooks Corps of Bristol Township, which is the Womans Relief Corp, the woman's auxiliary of Grand Army of the Republic of the Civil War. The Bristolville Brooks Corps was organized November 24, 1885, at the G.A.R. Hall in Bristolville by Mrs. Stella Sloan of Warren, Ohio, with 22 members. The organization was named after Charles Brooks, who was born in Bristol in 1843, he enlisted in Co. H 7th regiment during the Civil War but was killed when the bus he was in was hit by a train in Cleveland, Ohio in 1863 August 14th. His rank was First Lieutenant and served as Adjutant under Lt. Col William R. Creighton. Brooks was the highest-ranking officer from Bristol and the first officer to die from Bristol. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Bristolville, Ohio
