33 1/3 Audio record of train sounds, titled "High Country Steam," 1979. The record was published by Arkay Records. The jacket is 12" x 12" card board, with a photograph of a Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad train on narrow gauge tracks in mountain scenery on the front. The reverse side has a line map for the trains recorded on the record going from Chama to Cumbres between New Mexico and Colorado; a brief history of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad Narrow Gauge line; a description of the record's contents; and a list of different trains recorded on each side of the record. The back also has photograph images of various trains.
The record itself includes train sounds recorded from rail trips taken in the 1960s and 1970s. The trips were taken along the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad's narrow gauge line in the high country of New Mexico and Colorado, which was mostly used for mining, freight transportation, and some passenger service from the 1880s through the 1960s. The record jacket describes what the trips entailed. Some of the specific noises that can be heard include train whistles, running steam locomotives, and flanges turning corners.
