33 1/3 Audio record titled "The Rattle and the Roar: Volume 3, Last Steam Engine Thru Colorado Springs, Private Car - The NOMAD," containing train sounds, circa 1971. The record was published by Train Master Records, Manitou Springs, Colorado. The jacket is 12" x 12," with a color marker illustration image of a train running through a mountain landscape on the front. The caption "Steam Railroading in the Colorado Rockies" is below the title. The reverse side of the jacket has a description of the record contents, as well as a list of train recordings by side and cut. It also lists all volumes in the record series; the record is one of seven volumes.
The record itself has recording from December 16, 1962, when two Rocky Mountain Railroad Club members recorded the sounds of steam engine 638 near Palmer Lake between Denver and Colorado Springs. Recordings were also made of sounds from the private train car NOMAD, which belonged to the owner of the Durango radio station as he traveled Denver and Rio Grande Railway lines to the yearly meeting of Colorado Broadcasters. Types of sounds recorded include train whistles, locomotive engine starting, wheels turning on track, and other sounds. It also includes an interview with Radio-TV Sports Announcer Bob Martin and Denver and Rio Grande employee Alexis McKinney. The length is 45 minutes, 19 seconds.Collection
