33 1/3 Audio record titled "The Rattle and the Roar: Volume 4, The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad," containing train sounds, circa 1971. The record was published by Train Master Records, Manitou Springs, Colorado. The jacket is 12" x 12," with a color photograph image of the number 484 steam engine train on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad with American, Colorado, and New Mexico flags on the front. The caption "Steam Railroading in the Colorado Rockies" is at the bottom. The reverse side of the jacket has a description of the record contents, as well as a list of train recordings by side and cut. It also lists all volumes in the record series; the record is one of seven volumes.
The record itself has recording from three trips taken by members of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club in 1970 and 1971 on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, which ran from Antonito, Colorado to Cumbres using Denver and Rio Grande Western Railway equipment and engines. Recording was also taken of time spent in the "governor's special" car on the train taken in 1971. Types of sounds recorded include train whistles, locomotive engine starting, wheels turning on track, and other sounds. The length is 46 minutes, 14 seconds.Collection
