Scope and Content

Two copies of a Manual of Telegraphy, undated. The manuals are paper, 8.5" x 11,", 9 pages in length (one manual is missing the first page). One manual has two staples at the top, the other has three hole punches with no staples. The manuals are identical, and contain information for railroad station agents about telegraph use. The first four pages detail basic telegraph typing and American Morse Code; pages five through eight contain information on railroad terms and definitions, as they would apply to telegraph communication; and the final page includes letter abbreviation lists for various railroad and telegraphy terms used when communicating by telegraph. The railroad company and/or employee that wrote or distributed the manuals is unknown.

Custodial History: The manuals were found in the Broomfield Depot Museum collections. The original donor is unknown. It is possible that the manuals were used in the Broomfield train depot by station agents, however this has not been verified. The manuals may be related to items X.802 and X.804, as well.
