Scope and Content

A large wall calendar released by the Union Pacific Railroad, 1960-1961. The calendar is 12.25" x 23" when closed, bound with two staples at the top. It is a lithograph printing. The calendar covers December 1960 through December 1961; the pages for February, March, October, and November 1961 have been ripped out. The calendar also includes a page for the full year of 1962, and a back page with a colored picture of a dining car interior with passengers and crew. The back page also has information about planning trips with Union Pacific, and a color US map showing routes, destinations, and illustrations for each State. Red text at the foot of the map states, "The Union Pacific West...A Four Season Vacationland." The calendar flips around after June, as each page is double-sided with different months. Each individual page includes a full month, with red lettering for the month name, year, and every numbered day that falls on a Sunday or holiday. The rest of the text and numbers are in black. Each day of the week is listed in a row above the calendar, in three letter abbreviations. The bottom of the calendar has the Union Pacific Railroad red, white, and blue shield logo, and a small boxed calendar for both the previous and latter months (For example: December 1956 has small November 1956 and January 1957 calendars at the bottom of its page). Each month has a color picture highlighting certain trains, railroad trips, and landmarks featured on Union Pacific lines, with the text "Union Pacific Railroad: Road of the Daily Domeliners and Steamliners" as a footer. Images include: a "Season's Greetings" image of Southern California palm trees, Death Valley in California, a Union Pacific Gas Turbine-Electric Locomotive, and a City of Portland Domeliner train traveling through an Oregon landscape, among other images.

Custodial History: Found in Broomfield Depot Museum collections with three other calendars released by Union Pacific Railroad. Accession information has not yet been found, as of 7/6/2016. It is possible, though not verified, that the calendars could have been used in the 1950s and 1960s at the Broomfield train depot.
