Scope and Content

A sticker for the Denver & Interurban Railroad's Kite Route, circa 1917. The sticker is approximately 2.25" x 4.5", in a parallelogram shape. The front has a heading "The Kite Route" in white, sylized lettering with a red/orange backdrop. Below the heading is an illustrated color image (printed) of a Boulder with a mountain backdrop. Several 1910s era buildings are visible at a distance, with trees in the foreground. The caption "To Boulder and the Glaciers" is printed at the bottom of the sticker. The sticker also has a white border all around its edges. The sticker was most likely printed and used by the Denver & Interurban Railroad (D&I) to advertise the Kite Route. D&I was a subsidiary of the Colorado and Southern Railroad, and primarily included an electric passenger line that ran from Denver up through Broomfield, Boulder, and even Eldorado Springs. The D&I's main route was called the "Kite Route" because it resembled a diamond-shaped kite on a string when drawn on a map. The route was often used for tourism, as can be seen in the sticker's advertisement of "glaciers" that travelers could visit via the Kite Route.
