Description

Item is a hand-crafted doll replica of former First Lady Mamie Doud Eisenhower at the inauguration of her husband Dwight Eisenhower in January of 1957. The creator of this doll, Mrs. Wesley Wilson, put lots of research into the her design process, modeling the doll's shoes, curly hairdo, gloves, accessories, and pink dress after Eisenhower's real outfit. Wilson, who lived in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, had originally donated the doll, along with 19 others inspired by the first ladies, to the Northampton Area Public Library in October of 1967. It then made its way to the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library in Broomfield, where it went on display.
