Scope and Content

Assorted archival material relating to Superior train depot station agent Robert H. Hillen. Hillen lived at the depot with his wife, Jeanie Hillen, and their grandson, also named Robert, until the elder Robert died in 1931. Material includes a photocopy of a Superior business directory from 1918, an obituary information sheet for Robert Hillen from 2011, and notes by Superior Museum staff about the Hillen family from 2015. The copy of directory pages for Boulder County, Colorado, lists Superior train depot agent Robert H. Hillen and his wife Jeanie. A banner near the top of the pages titles the directory as "The R.L. Polk Directory Co.'s 1918 Boulder County Directory." The page numbers are 382-383, with several listings of individuals in Sunset, Superior, Wallstreet, and Ward, Colorado. Hillen's listing is printed on page 382 as follows: "Hillen Robert H (Jeanie) agt C & S Ry Co. American Ry Express Co. mngr Western Union Telegraph." Page 383 has another listing with Hillen's name: "Western Union Telegraph Co. R H Hillen agt." The pages also give information on several other individuals' information, including names, spouses, affiliated employers, and occupation. Many of the individuals listed were either miners or merchants. Advertisements also adorn the top and bottom of the pages, including ads for G.A. Hall farm supplies, Boulder Typewriter Exchange, and A.T. Henry, Jr. Insurance. The obituary information is a compiled word document, one page, listing Robert Hillen's (grandson) obituary and funeral information from 2011. It also includes a picture of Hillen in his old age, and cemetery plot information with a picture of his tombstone. The notes from the Superior Museum include brief details about the Hillen family given by Katherine Renfroe, the great granddaughter of Robert H. Hillen who donated several items to the museum. It also briefly discusses information about her father, the junior Robert Hillen, who was raised in the late 1920s at the Superior train depot where his grandparents lived.
