Scope and Content

Annual book for the Colorado Training School for Nurses, titled "El Amigo", 1932. The book is 8" x 11", blue colored leather and hardcover. A raised, green, silhouetted figure of a woman holding a spear-like implement at her side in her right hand is portrayed on the cover, with golden strands of light beaming in four directions from her left hand being held upright. The figure is standing atop a gold City and County of Denver seal. The book's title and year are in gold. Vic Thaete's name is written in ink on the inside cover next to a designated Ex Libris space. The annual was the fifth volume of "El Amigo", and served as a sort of yearbook for the students, faculty, and staff of the Colorado Training School for Nurses. The book's owner was Vic Thaete, who had a child with longtime Broomfield resident Ella Mitze that shared his name. Mitze attended the school from 1929 to 1931, when she graduated. Thaete worked as an ambulance driver for Denver General Hospital, and met Mitze while she was a nurse there. The book contains many types of information about the school, including: pictures, information, poems, and stories about individual students and faculty; class information and pictures; sports pages; information on different parts of Denver General Hospital, where nursing students worked; achievement lists; jokes; Denver business advertisements; and several written comments and autographs from students.
