Description

Item is a black-and-white photograph taken sometime before 1994, most likely during the late 1980s or early 1990s. The photo centers around Charles Ozaki and Mary Jane Bailey, who are sitting on stools at the front of a cinderblock room with paper plate decorations on the walls and a wooden door. The two are reading to a group of attentive children who are sitting on the floor in front of them. They are in the 12 Garden Center building, which used to host the Broomfield Library and is now home to the Veterans Museum. Mary Jane Bailey was Broomfield's first paid Library Director, hired in October 1961 after the city approved a grant. The library has since moved four times. Charles Ozaki spent eight years as the City and County Manager of Broomfield, then 29 years as Assistant (and later Deputy) City and County Manager.
