The Healing Field Flag Memorial Collection contains a program, four brochures, two conceptual maps, and three handouts pertaining to Broomfield's 2005 memorialization of the 2001 September 11th terrorist attacks. Broomfield residents, in conjunction with the City and County of Broomfield, Broomfield Police, and North Metro Fire Rescue, placed approximately 5,753 three-by-five-foot American flags in the park space around the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library. The flags represented the civilian victims and first responders who died from the attacks, and members of the coalition forces who had died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event was a national effort, with Broomfield bringing one field to the Denver-Metro area. Proceeds from sponsored flags were ultimately used to create a permanent, local 9/11 memorial near the library.Collection
